The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course is to teach lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.
You are not allowed to miss one day of the training. If you miss any of the CPR portions of the training, you will be required to pay an additional fee to attend another class at the American Red Cross to complete your Lifeguard Training. You will not be given a refund for the CPR section of the class.In this course, you will learn about the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard and how to carry them out in a professional manner. You will also learn a number of lifeguarding techniques, such as how to use surveillance, how to use rescue equipment to help rescue a distressed swimmer, an active drowning victim, and a passive drowning victim; and how to manage a suspected spinal injury victim.These practices require strenuous activity. If you have a medical condition or disability that might prevent you from taking part in the practice sessions, or if you have any questions at all about your ability to participate fully in the Lifeguard Training course, you should discuss it with the Community Center's Aquatic Supervisor or the appropriate person at your local Red Cross Chapter before you start the course.
